Within the dual information processing, two selves, theory of psychology, the “experiencing self” is that system within us that utilizes non-transformed experience to help us navigate the world around us. The “remembering self” is the system that utilizes linguistically transformed experience to help us navigate the world. The placebo response may be causally related to the process of the transform of experience into concepts with those who shift their dominant frames of reference more easily, from experience to the linguistic transform of that experience, being placebo responders.
